Rakuten parcel delivery details
Most online shopping stores in Japan, Including Rakuten Ichiba, do not ship to the US or other international addresses. However, with Rakuten Global Express all items purchased from Rakuten or other online shopping stores can now be delivered internationally.
Here is how it works:
- Customers can sign up for a Rakuten Global Express account and will be assigned a local address (Rakuten Global Express address)
- Once customer shops online, they can send their items to the Rakuten Global Address that was created for them
- Once items have been delivered to the local address, customers will receive a notification and will have to confirm delivery
- Upon getting confirmation, Rakuten Global Express will pack the items and ship them to the customer's address overseas
- Delivery time could vary depending on the shipping option the customer chooses, the earliest can be as early as three days from the time items were shipped
Shipping Delivery Methods
There are three available shipping options to customers - Express, Economy, and Surface Mail. Express is the fastest but also quite expensive.
The Economy is best for non-time-sensitive deliveries and is a lot faster than Surface Mail, but less expensive than express. The economy shipping options use air shipping.
Surface Mail uses a surface delivery method and is the least expensive method. This is best for customers who are not in a hurry to get their package and would like to save more on shipping delivery charges.
For items or packages that are over 30kg, with a length of over 150cm, or if the total dimension of the package exceeds 200cm, the shipping will not be any of the above. These packages will be sent via oversized delivery and will be shipped through FedEx. This is best for larger items such as furniture.
The prices for each shipping method will vary depending on the country of destination.
Packing and Shipping Preferences
Customers can set their shipping preferences to manual-pack or auto-pack, and manual-ship or auto-ship.
With Manual-Pack, Rakuten Global Express will not pack your items once received. They will need to contact you for confirmation. If you set your preference to auto-pack, all items received will be packed immediately. As for shipping preferences, with auto-ship, Rakuten will ship your packages automatically according to the shipping method you have specified in your preferences. For manual, they will contact you to confirm if you'd like to deliver the packages already and what shipping method you'd like to use.
Manual would be best for customers who tend to shop a lot of items and from different shops. This way, your packages will be packed in one package (if possible) and shipped all at once. This will save you money on delivery charges.
